Restoration
of the West Wall
at St John the Baptist Church
Following a recent survey it was recommended
that work be undertaken on the West Wall
of the church as it was beginning to lean,
cracks were widening and a corner support,
probably built in Victorian times, was now
pulling the wall out of shape, rather than
as intended pushing the wall into shape.
The total cost is estimated in the region
of £109,000.
The church is mentioned in the Domesday
Book as having a priest and was probably
then about the same size as it is now.

Letton is a small parish of fewer than
100 people with 37 households registered
for Council Tax (according to Herefordshire
Council Tax Data 2008). Although the post
office and shop are long gone we are lucky
we still have a pub and church.
English Heritage have generously agreed
to part-fund the work on this Grade 1 listed
building and the Parochial Church Council
are now girding their loins for a series
of events to raise the funds they need to
provide for their share of the expenses.
So far the church has hosted An Evening
with the Railway Choir held Saturday 21st
March 2009.
