Hi Gary We've been following your progress with huge interest and think you are a complete star - absolutely amazing. Well done you on such an incredible journey. You so deserve a rest now and must take time out to be justifiably proud. Congratulations from Sarah and Jenny in the Hereford Macmillan office. .

Well done, Gary! Congratulations on your great adventure on behalf of charity. I can empathize with your decision to end the journey a bit early. Some years ago, I set out to cycle across the United States (west to east). I had a great time for a month, but after some 2000 miles I'd had enough, terminated the ride, and flew home. I have never had any regrets -- it was definitely the correct decision. I hope you will have similar feelings about your decision. Again I say, "Well Done!" ..

Dear Gary, What a fabulous achievement to have got as far as you have done - and even greater wisdom to know when you had reached your limit. Well done you, and if you ever decide to get back on your bike again I'll be doing my best to drum up support. Short of actually getting on a bike myself, obviously. with warmest congratulations and very best wishes Sarah ..

Gary I have just come back to weobley form Derbyshire after 3 nights away in a comfortable place, being well fed and watered, and being surrounded by people I know AND I HAVE MISSED BEING AT HOME LIKE MAD and that was only 3 NIGHTS. The things that you have achieved over the past 27 days are beyond the wildest dreams of normal people and you should be as proud as punch. 39 Cathedrals, 2044 miles, 27 different beds, wind, cold, sun, warmth, hills, dales, SCOTLAND, SHAP and so much more. We salute you and your decision to finish for now. We are just delighted that you are back in one piece and still smiling. It has been an honour and really quite humbling to speak with you most days and to have spent some time on your journey. What more can I say without sounding even more cheesy than I have already. GARY YOU ARE A STAR and THANK YOU JULIA for all that you have done and for letting McMillan & Letton borrow your husband. God bless you both Bob King ..

Well done you!!!! Hi Gary, Sorry we didn't get to meet up in St Albans. I had no idea where you were or how far you would get Tuesday and then of course no blog to help me out. Anyway wow! look what you have achieved, fantastic!! I think you made the right decision. The roads in London and the South East are a nightmare for car drivers, let alone cyclists. Take Care, Love to everyone. Aunti Bren ..

We are so proud of, but not surprised by, what you have achieved, Gary, and of your strengths of character and purpose that shone through each day. That strength of character helped you make the right decision to finish (we note your words "for now")this quest for all the right reasons, and not decide to carry on for all the wrong ones. You've come home safely, which is the most important thing of all. Love - Mum and Dad. ..

Gary, Congratulations you really are a superstar! Your quest has been of mammoth proportions and your achievement colossal. In biblical times your journey would have given you sainthood and you would have been part of "the story" for ever. I once road from Bristol to Weston in one day (about 22 miles) and I have lived with the boast and memory ever since. You will remember this achievement for ever and doubtless you will now be part of the folklore of Letton. They must all be in absolute awe at your success. Letton Church and Macmillan will be thrilled with your success. Take a rest, although we know that work calls (work will be a doddle after this). Once again congratulations and thank you for giving us the pleasure of your company. Love Gilly and Arthur. (can we have our fridge back now?) ..

I have enjoyed following your journey via your blogs. I had the great pleasure of exploring your wonderful country twice by bicycle, with the focus of my trips being those magnificent cathedrals! I have vivid memories of the countryside, the rains, the hills, and the winds. Most of all, I remember the friendly and helpful people I met. May you enjoy the rest of your great adventure! ..

One day at a time, Gary, then each will be its own adventure. Savour the days, and the journey will bring its own reward. Enjoy the experience, and most importantly believe in yourself, as did your great-great-great grandad, Isaiah John. Day six of your quest will be the 158th anniversary of the day, 15 May 1850, that Isaiah left London for America, on his quest to find out first-hand how the slaves lived and worked on the sugar plantations. We wish you good fortune. Return safely, as did your soul-mate, Isaiah - adventurers both! Take care now you - with all our love - Mum and Dad..

Just a line to encourage you.I liked your comment that once it had been written down you were committed! In 2006 my husband and I offered to walk round all the St Mary's churches in the diocese in aid of our St Mary's in Ross before we realised there were 77! That took us 25 days too, some days taking in as many as 5 churches. This also meant 5 helpings of fruitcake, so if the hospitality you get is anything like that we received, you won't be short of the calories you need. Good luck.

Janet Nelson, Ross-on-Wye

Great idea Gary. I hope you can complete it. I have been thinking of just cycling to the English Cathedrals for MS Society after cycling 1500 miles to 63 football clubs in Nov 06. Your proposed timescale is impressive. I found 75 miles a day tiring carrying all my gear. If I can help, let me know.

Gary, I was very Interested in reading the report in the Hereford Times of today and in visiting your website. Oddly enough over the past two weeks I have been seriously thinking about the possibility of two cycle challenges for myself. One to do a tour of all Herefordshire Market towns (80 miles or thereabouts round trip)to highlight the distances having to be travelled by cancer patients from Hereford to Cheltenham as is the local need for a treatment centre in Hereford and secondly a longer term plan to cycle to all the residential homes that fall within my remit as the property manager for the charity that I work for, a round trip of nearly 1,400 miles throughout England in recognition of the Charity's 50th Anniversary. I cycled many miles last year for general fitness and have again commenced some general fitness training and cycling. I admire your plans and wish you the best on your travels. I will be following your progress and providing I'm ready to undertake and formally anounce either or both of my proposed challenges I will again e-mail you. GOOD LUCK.

I did a sponsored tour of English medieval cathedrals in 2003 to raise funds for our early Norman church. If I can assist with advice, do not be shy to ask. Although I visited them all in 13 days, it was not an easy trip. Two each day with either a eucharist or evensong at each one, plus a tour of the structures and a chat with the Dean or Chancellor bought up a lot of time. However, I was 25 years older than yourself when I undertook the project, although I travelled by car rather than a bicycle. Even so, the distance of 2000 miles was rather wearing. Best of luck, John.W.
