St John the Baptist Church, Letton

Letton, and its church, is mentioned in the Domesday Book. It may well have had an earlier pagan site.

Over the centuries the church has expanded from its original wooden building and has had a wide variety of patrons ranging from Saxon, Norman, Reformation & post Civil War individuals.

An 18th. Century one, an M.P. for Leominster, was arraigned for fomenting rebellion in Monmouth & eventually declared bankrupt. He was followed, as patron, by a slave trader from Bristol.

The church is now in need of extensive, and expensive, remedial building work. Hopefully, it can continue its function as a place of worship and community centre for many years. It holds an increasing number of social events, such as, quizzes, an evening Bat Watch, Sunday afternoon teas, concerts, a Christmas Fayre, talks,
